A Place to Belong, A Future to Build
At Hillsborough Masjid, we’ve grown from humble beginnings into a vibrant community that uplifts and inspires. Rooted in faith and driven by a vision for a thriving Muslim community in New Zealand, we’re creating a space where all generations can connect, learn, and grow together.
The Hillsborough Masjid was founded by Muslims in New Zealand who were concerned with meeting the needs of second and third-generation young people and families. We started with humble beginnings in 2016, gathering for classes in people’s homes and even a shed!
With our limited resources, over the years we have fostered a strong and supportive community. Our vision was to create a place where people and families could connect and grow spirituality, laying the foundations for a strong and thriving community.
Over the past ten years, we have run children’s, Quran memorisation, women’s, community and holiday programmes. We have also hosted prominent Islamic scholars.
We have always dreamed of establishing a more prominent and permanent space to grow our community and programmes. After a dedicated search, we found a property in Hillsborough. The proximity to nature and the growing Muslim presence in the area made it the ideal location for our new masjid.
With our community’s support, we purchased the property and began transforming it into a welcoming and functional space for our community.
Faith. Connection. Growth.
We combine a traditional Islamic approach to community building with the contemporary needs of Muslims in New Zealand. We focus on spirituality, understanding that most people seek a deeper connection with Allah (SWT) and their faith community, backed by sound knowledge and practice.
We strive to create a welcoming and inclusive environment where everyone feels valued and respected. We are dedicated to creating a space where everyone is welcome, regardless of their stage in their faith journey. In addition to a masjid, our facilities provide a foundation for connection, education, and upliftment. As part of Lote Tree, we can support people in meeting their social and economic aspirations and building a thriving Muslim community.
