Marriage Celebrant Services

The Hillsborough Masjid is pleased to offer professional marriage celebrant services to our community.

Our aim is to ensure that every Nikah (Islamic marriage ceremony) conducted through the Masjid is performed in accordance with Islamic principles, with care, respect, and professionalism.

This service also contributes to the ongoing support and sustainability of the Masjid, helping us to continue providing our many free community programs and services.

Service Overview

Our Marriage Celebrant Service starts at $500.
This includes:

A private meeting with the Imam and both spouses to discuss your intentions, ensure that all Islamic and legal requirements for marriage are met, understand your cultural context and answer any questions that you have.
Preparation for your ceremony.
Guidance on applying for a marriage license through the New Zealand government/
Nikah ceremony at the Hillsborough Masjid or another approved location.
An Islamic marriage certificate, printed and presented on the day of your Nikah.

Use of premium signing pens for your ceremony.

Please note The Hillsborough Masjid only performs marriages that include a New Zealand marriage licence unless the couple are already legally married. All marriages must meet the requirements for a valid Islamic and legal union before the ceremony can take place.

Venue Options

At the Hillsborough Masjid

the use of the Masjid space for your ceremony is included in the service.

Off-site

the Imam can perform your ceremony at an external venue (such as a hall, home, or garden).

Additional costs apply for off-site ceremonies to cover travel and preparation time.

Why This Service Has a Fee

Our celebrant service fee of $500 reflects both the professionalism and the preparation required to conduct your marriage properly. Professional celebrant services are rarely offered below this amount, and your payment directly supports the Masjid and its ongoing community services, most of which are offered free of charge.
